Science in the News (SITN)
SITN Format
1. Type on a Google doc. (You will be sharing your article with other classmates - mostly from other classes - for feedback.)
A. Create document in shared Earth Care Geek folder. Give "can comment" rights to your group.
B. Name your document with the following information: class code, SITN, topic & your first name. ex. Beta SITN Bees Abby.
2. At the top include a Hall Header.
3. Include the article title, periodical name (ex. Marin Independent Journal), author's name and date of article. If your article is from the Internet include a link to the article.
4. Have the 4 sections:
A. Summary
B. Science Fields: Pick 2 science fields and in complete sentences explain the field and why that type of scientist would be interested in the article. Here a a few sites that have a list of science fields:
i. Chemistry: About.com - "ology" fields
ii. Fields of science
iii. Wikipedia - List of science fields
C. Opinions: Write a reflective paragraph on your opinion of the topic.
D. Wonders: Write 2 wonders about what the topic that you would like to investigate further.

Scoring Guide (30 points)
Science Fields
Need to find the name of a science field? Here is a list of science fields. Sorry, but it's not searchable. You'll have to scan the list for something relevant.
- Proper format - including article title, periodical name & date of article; sections clearly labeled; typed (2 points)
- Article attached: include a link to the article; if from a newspaper put it in the "turn in pile" and staple or paperclip the article to your paper (2 points)
- Part A: Summary - Article is summarized in your own words. You know the meaning of the science vocabulary or other words in your summary. No opinions given. (11 points)
- Part B: Science Fields - 2 relevant field with a sentence explaining each and why someone from that field would be interested in the article. (3 points/field = 6 points)
- Part C: Opinions - Write a reflective paragraph about the topic. Do not talk about if you thought the article was interesting or boring. (7points)
- Part D: Wonders - Write 2 "wonders" about the topic that you would like to investigate further.. (2 point)
